Internet Constantly Shuts Down Due to Router

I have a linksys wireless router, and I swear like twice a day my internet shuts down and I need to hold the reset button to get it back. It always works, but usually for a matter of hours only. There are 2 other computers which are connected to this router and they have the same problem.

This is so frustrating! Any help appreciated!

Make sure it has proper ventilation. Dont set it on the carpet, try to put it on a firm surface. Don't cover the vents either. Which model is it?

I've had similar problems with other routers, only way I've found to fix it is to replace the thing.

Agreed, sometimes hardware just fails, and if your hardware consistantly fails after warm up or use then you may have a hardware problem. You could always try flashing the firmware with an updated version first before you buy a new one.

Ok, got the firmware. I am now being asked for a server and password. This is something that I should have established when I first set up my network, right? I'm pretty sure I remember the password, but is there any way that I can find out what to type in for server? And as far as the file box goes, what file am I searching for? It seems to think there's a file on my computer for it to look to and update.

I feel like a moron. Please help!

Yeah, it's a .bin
Don't mount or extract it or anything.

Go into your router sections. Into the Administration section. Then to the "Firmware update" section. I'm not sure if it'll be exactly but this is on a wrt54gs so hopefully it's similar.

Once there, point to the downloaded file and update it.

Right I succesfully downloaded the firmware update but it's in a file type that I don't understand and that my Windows doesn't know how to use. What program do I use to run the file? And if that question isn't applicable, just how do I update this firmware?

So, did you read the previous post?
You don't run the file, or open it, or use it, or extract it, or display it, or move it, or have windows use it, or do anything to it. Find the "Firmware update" section in your linksys settings and just point it to the .bin file you just downloaded and update.
