Internet Dilemma

Well here I am in quite a complicated wireless dilemma here, I will try to explain it as simply as possible. I need to get my internet speed faster, I currently have Verizon Fios 20mb connection. Now my crappy wireless N 150 adapter can only get 6mb/sec. Which I don't really mind but close to 20mb/sec would be nice, plus it drops the connection ALOT.

I want to connect with a wired connection without being near the router what can i do?

If I have to spend quite a bit of money to do this I do not mind, but not over 100.00usd.

I know I can get a better wireless card if you know of any really good ones please do suggest them.

if you want direct wire connection away from the router, you would probably need to make or get made a very long custom cat 5 cable, if you have a poor wireless card, have you though of installing a repeater

Wait. You mean you have Verizon Fios at 20Mbps, and you can only download at 6MB/s? That doesn't make sense. You realize the difference between megabit (Mbps), and Megabyte (MB/s), right? If Verizon only allows 20mbps, then you can only download at 2.5 MB/s. Which is still blazing fast for normal use.

I don't think you need a new adapter, I think you're just a bit confused.

Yeah its 20 megabits per second, I just made the post really quickly. The only problem with getting one is I still run in to dropping the connection. Is there any good ones you would recommend?

The figures quoted by Etzelr1990 were 20mb/sec and 6mb/s. What is the confusion?

I have to comment though on, "If I have to spend quite a bit of money to do this I do not mind, but not over 100.00usd". Definitely confused over value of money when it comes to buying computer stuff!

Yeah, actually, if it is a PC, not a laptop, this adapter has been amazing for me.
$15. No joke, it's quite fast

I found that you don't need to spend $60 on an adapter, and get the speeds you want. Got it from Walmart.

Uh, I'm pretty sure there is no ISP that offers 20 MB/s that isn't commercial. That's rediculous. 20mbps is more likely. Did you not read my post lol?

The router is on a different floor the only solution I had in the past was using a wireless powerline adapter. However by moving it up by like 6 inches higher it connected this has been an ongoing 6 month problem I just want it to work properly.

The speed is not the issue I just can not deal with the dropping of the net every 10minutes. It has been confirmed that it is not a router issue.

are you saying its not the wireless router or are you saying its not the fios modem?

Sorry if there was confusion, the my last post was directed towards the other person.

Like I said before, I would probably go with the adapter I suggested in my earlier post. But the cheapest way would be the $15 wireless card, if it doesn't work, you can always take it back.

You said you already have wireless repeaters, right? Or the powerline adapters act as repeaters?
