Internet/Ethernet fails

Hi,
I installed XP on a desktop and when I plug in the Ethernet cable, nothing happens. I've tried to install every driver for the Ethernet, I've cheked the device maneger but it can't recognize it. There is also a program that comes with the drivers, and it can't recognize the Ethernet and many other things too.
It is a Dell Inspire 4550.

If the driver doesn't recognize the port then it's likely the ethernet port is bad. Be sure you have the correct driver for the ethernet port, if you do then you need to buy a new ethernet card then.
