Starting yesterday morning, whenever I go to a site that requires a password, or even typing in something for a search, I get the "internet explorer has caused an error and will close, etc," followed by the "send report" thing. This has never happened before. Possible virus/spyware problem? I do have Firefox which I'm using now. My IE is 6.

Have you tried running a virus/spyware tool? If not, you should just in case. It also sounds like it could be IE itself, so trying this tool might help. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm
