Internet explorer version

Hi,
Michael here.
I have a problem. I have Internet explorer
Version 6.0 but when I try download McAfee free scan
I receive error:
To download and install McAfee software, your computer must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.
The same result with Norton free scan.

What’s the catch?

I was working recently with McAfee and Norton and everything was
fine. What could happen to my Internet explorer?

Run windows update, some new hot fixes and patches may be out that you don't have installed; could fix it.
