internet freeze lags

I have noticed that when Im playing games. The internet connection freezes up for a couple of seconds and then its back until the next time it freezes up again for another few seconds. It happens every few minutes, its nothing random I know exactly when its coming and can do nothing about it.
Because it happens at all computers in the network at the same time then I came to the conclusion it must be something with the router, I wonder tho if it is some settings that I could fix or if it is just to buy another router to fix the problem.
With the old router I didn't have such problems.

Any ideas guys?

I really don't know what to do, I paid a lot for this router because it was supposed to be a good one with many useful functions but these lag spikes are really annoying, its not only on gaming... streaming also gets affected.

model number. is that serial number?
Serial: 21941ABH00743
MAC: E0469AA614F7
Its a NETGEAR RANGEMAX WIRELESS-N DSL GIGABIT MODEM ROUTER DGN3500

That modem/router doesn't have a very good review on a lot a sites like newegg and amazon. I would recommend changing it out. If you can, get 2 separate devices. Don't get the combo units, buy a modem and then buy a separate router.

crap, yeah Im already looking for something... Thanks for taking a look into my topic never the less.

I think we're quick to judge here. I wouldn't put a single iota of proof in newegg reviews as they're nearly useless.

Please disconnect the router from the power for 10 seconds.
Reconnect power.

Assuming you're in North America...

Connect into the modem's user interface (type 192.168.0.1 into your browser while connected via ethernet to the modem) and follow these instructions update the firmware to update the following file (if you haven't changed from the default password etc, its admin and password):

http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/e.../GDC/DGN3500/DGN3500-V1.1.00.36_1.00.36NA.zip

Save that file to your desktop and extract it.
Point the firmware update wizard in the modem user interface to this file and upload/update.
Let it finish.

Then re-enter the user interface and ensure all your settings are correct.

For example...

If you only have G type wireless devices, ensure that the router is only transmitting to G and not to A, or B and change the channel from Auto to something else.... you can often see what your neighbors are transmitting on in Windows by looking at the available wireless signals... choose a different one...etc...

If you're in another country select that or 'other' and download the latest version for your region and update in the same manner.

If you have done all of that and you're sure you have optimised the settings, ensure that you have the latest drivers etc on the device sides (e.g. wireless drivers on the computers, tvs etc).

Failing that, call your ISP and get a line check. Often they can make changes that are material.
