if my laptop is on a wireless network, can i plug an ethernet cable from my laptop to a desktop, so that the desktop can get internet? I ask because i need to get a driver for an old wireless device i am going to install on vista, and i cant find it online, but vista will probably be able to find it. Also the modem is downstairs, so i cant hardwire it from the router, its too far.

Yes, I think u can do that. In the host computer, open network and sharing center, click on manage network connection. There u will see the wireless and lan network. Select both the network (by holding ctrl key), right click and select bridge connection. Then another connection will be created 'mac miniport bridge' or something like that. Then u will be able to share wireless internet over LAN.
But I am not sure about this. I share my LAN internet via wireless by this method, and I think that most probably the vice versa should also work.

yes it can be... just bridge the wireless and the lan and you can enjoy internet on your desktop too...
what we do is we bridge the connection where the lan(is the main connection), and we share it thru wireless.. soi think it is quite possible
