Can you help please...

I am no technical person only a user so plain simple English please LOL...

My internet for the last 4 weeks has gone off. It slows to a crawl and then nothing, cant open pages or anything. I have to reboot the computer and then up again. This is obviously a pain when playing online games. I have had things checked by my ISP and they inform me it’s my end. So can anyone help please? I have an Acer Aspire 5630 lap top running windows XP on virgin broadband with 20meg download speed (supposedly)

Directly connected? Through a router? If you have wifi is it secured or just open, someone could be leeching off your wifi. Another possibility is that you could have a virus of some kind thats slowin ur net down.

I was through a wireless router but now gone direct. Have run several spy ware and virus scans all clear.

HELP PLEASE

What kind of router? Who is your ISP? Try connecting your computer right to the modem, not router. If it still keeps up contact your ISP.

ISP is Virgin at 20 meg
Going direct no router
No viruses
no spy ware
No internet every day

HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will realy need to contact Virgin media,It could be a problem with your Modem or line.

They will usualy send out a techy if the problem cannot be fixed by yourself over the phone.

Have you tried unplugging your modem so theres no power at all through it,leave it for about half-hour and switching it back on and leave it for another 20- 30 mins to reconnect properly?

What model Modem do you have? Should say underneath.

Also just adding, where do you live? Because some of you won't know this, but not everywhere has unlimited downloads, like Australia and New Zealand so do you have a cap plan? Like a download limit, if you have gone over it will be slow.

I had the same problem about 4 weeks ago with virgin media,

when i rung up to complain they offered the simple explanation that they were carrying out upgrading in my area...

I argued the fact that it was fine at dinner time but at peak times in the evening (5pm-10pm) NOTHING

After persistence (and threatening to jump ship) i have this months broadband free! :D
