Some more details would help. I assume you are trying to connect wirelessly and struggling? What security are you using? Does the wireless network show up in the available network lists? Just more info and well do what we can.

are you connecting wirelessly? did it used to work? if yes and yes, restart the router (pull plug for 10 secs and plug in, wait a min and try)

other than that, please list full details of router (make/model) connection types (wired/wireless) when the problem started, etc.

there's like 300 things that could be causing this!

im trying to hook up the Internet through the ethernet cable, not wireless. i know the router works 100%. and the ethernet i tried in my laptop and im on it now.. if i switch the ethernet cable from this laptop to either of the desktops(dell) the little light where it plugs on turns on... and the light on the router turns on indicating a connection..

i am using a linksys router

one dell has mcafee Internet protection

the other dell has a fresh windows install with no Internet protection

im pretty sure the problem is with the computers, but im not sure what it is...

i had this problem before on an xfx mobo custom system, but it was just because the drivers wernt installed correctly..

any suggestions? if any other info would help please say,
thankyou

First make sure that the proper lan drivers are installed on both machines. Next it's possible that Mcafee has blocked access to the internet on the one machine. Post back with the results.

just go into your control panel, device manager, find the lan card, click on it and hit update drivers.
if you can't get to that point i'd recommend getting geek squad or someone else over, or bringing the computers to your local computer store.
again, i ask, when did this problem start?

i dont see a "device manager"...

but i purchased a computer from the swap meet, i swapped some parts around because it had a faulty mobo, after i swapped the parts around it seem to have the Internet problem.

the other one i never used an ethernet because i had it hooked up wirelessly
