Hello all,
I have a HP 876X media desk top machine that doesn't seem to want to go on the internet. I came home the other day to find the monitor not working and the internet not working. I didn't realize the internet wasn't working until I replaced the monitor a few days later. I thought the monitor was on its last leg so I wasn't surprised that it finally died. I have no idea if the two things are related. Anyway, here we go.
I have 3 computers networked in my home office. They all use windows xp home and internet explorer. They all are hooked up through a linksys wireless router and we use dsl for the provider.
When I click on the internet icon it says page can not be displayed. When I type in an addy in the addy bar it says the address is not valid. Even though both my home page and www.google.com(the addy I typed in) are correctly typed and working addys. I have tried turning off the fire wall, disabling/enabling connections, restoring from a past date when the internet worked, restarting, kicking it(well, not really). I am out of ideas.
The broken computer can still see the other two computers on the network. I have also swapped cords to a working computer and the internet worked with the cord from the broken computer. I have moved the cords to different plugs in the linksys but to no avail. It must be a bad ethernet(right name?) plug, card, or board or something on the computer or some setting I am missing. I have also checked the device manager and supposedly it is working like it should.
Any ideas? Need any more info? Thanks in advanced.
