Internet Numpty needs advice

Firstly be gentle with me as I am completely useless when it comes to PC's

I have recently allowed my next door neighbour to use my internet connection as she doesnt have a phone line.

She bought a router, but wasnt able to connect unless she sat in her driveway. So then she ran a cable from my house to hers and she connects through that.

The original arrangement was just for her to check emails etc. Now she is contantly downloading films etc.

My question is, does her downloading stuff from the interent pose any threat to my pc and is it expensive to keep the router going for hours and hours on end?

I feel I am being taken advantage of a little so I hope someone can offer some advice.

Bengal85 thanks for your reply. I am aware of the fact I am paying for everything, but I would still be paying whether she uses it or not.....That wasnt the problem! Thanks anyway xx

Welcome to CF!

As long as you dont file share etc... across the network you should be fine. But I would keep up-to-date anti-malware software installed on your pc...just in case. If you are really worried about it I would talk to her about not doing it.

By downloading constantly I dont think it makes a difference to how much power the router is using...if it does it would have to only be a small amount.

I would have welcomed you but you obviously hadn't read the site info or you would have posted here - http://www.computerforum.com/95759-official-welcome-introduction-thread.html. That's sarcasm as well :)

The routers current drain would be negligable and as said, make sure you have firewall and virus protection.

yeah but still she is getting things free even you would have to pay no matter what but still she needs to pay for all the stuff she gets that you will never get to enjoy
 
Also if she's downloading constantly, you'll be getting slower speeds when you go to download something or load a webpage, since your bandwidth is effectively being cut in half.

Also, bear in mind that if she is downloading films illegally (just a thought) or doing anything illegally, since she is on your internet connection, the 'blame' would be down to you.

I'd personally never share my connection with anybody outside of my family.
