Internet on a desktop through a laptop?

My wi-fi dongle broke and I will get a new one in about a week, so right now I have no internet on my desktop. I have loads of laptops in my house that all have wi-fi. Is there any way I can connect a laptop to a desktop and use wi-fi on the desktop through the laptop? (no I cannot connect the desktop directly to the router because the cable is way too short)

Oh, and I probably should mention that the laptop is running vista and the desktop is running windows 8

It can be done.

You will need a crossover network cable between the laptop and desktop.

I believe you need to bridge the Wifi and LAN ports on the laptop. I haven't done it in a long time so don't remember the exact setting

Follow this guide. It will vary slightly for Vista and 7, but should still work.
