Internet on a desktop

My internet connection is 16mb/s. On my pc I'm getting 1mb/s and the connection is lost every 3-5minutes and I have to re-connect. The weird thing is that it worked perfectly fine until today, and I didn't do anything to my pc. My laptop on the other hand is getting 15mb/s and everything works perfectly fine. How can I get the internet to work on my pc? Please, help..
 
How are you connecting to the internet on each machine? Wireless for the laptop and ethernet for the desktop? If so, could be bad cable, flaky router port or even a bad ethernet port on the pc.
 
Yeah... can't really do that because my router is built into the wall almost on the ceiling and the longest cable I have is about three feet long so I'd have to hold the pc in my hands while trying to use it which is not going to happen..
 
Get a longer cable? lol What about doing a system restore back to when it was working correctly? If it still don't work then it has to be the dongle.
