Internet on another computer

Hi - I have a bit of a problem. Yesterday i bought a second computer - just extra, not intended for online use whatsoever - and i installed win98 on it, but i need to connect to the internet to update all my drivers (the computer is rather new). i just plugged in the ethernet-cable from my 'regular' computer, but the second one won't connect. the light is on, so it's got to be windows' fault. when opening internet explorer, i got this wizard, and i followed, but it didn't work - i checked what tcp/ip settings should be according to my provider-manual, but it still doesn't work - and i can't find the cd i got with the internet.
what should i do?

thanks in advance!

Theres a couple things you may need to take into consideration, but first would need to find out a few things. Do you know your ISP (internet service provider), and do you have to connect through any program (enter a username and such), have a router? Those are a couple things may need to check. You can see if you have internet access by going to the start menu, click "run", type in "ipconfig", if you get an IP address, you have internet access.

you should set the gateway IP and DNS IP. check ur old computer for DNS and gateway.
