Internet Problem

Hi, I'm on a 3mbit DSL connection and i got a problem. My internet is slow, i just formated my pc and installed win sp2 2 days ago and this started around the same time. I dont know if its my isp because before i used to have 300KB/S on some websites and now on the same website its 60KB/S and sometimes its even less 5KB/s. Sometimes the internet goes at a better speed like 150KB/S but then agina it goes back to the slow speeds after a while. I got a Netopia Cayman DSL modem. If you know how to solve it please let me know
Thanks.

dang your pings are all over the place and your bandwidth sucks. did you try powering down the modem. pull the plug on the modem then hold down the power button for 5 seconds to drain all the remaining power. then reconnect and see if it does anything. run the tests again.

the firewall shouldnt affect anything. what company is your dsl? pick up ur phone and hit 2. do you hear any interference like a scratching noise?

its a canadian company

www.fcibroadband.com i think. I didnt have this problem few days ago i had fast speeds 300KB/s and my upload was like 200 KB/s so i dont really know whats the problem as i said i just formated. My DSL is connected throught a different line not the same as the telephone.

their site doesn't seem to work. sometimes if the wiring outside the house gets damaged it causes intense interference. if you connect a phone to it you can hear a bunch of scratching noise. it happened to me when i first got dsl.

i fixed the link. the cable is not outside it is wired throught to my basement, not the outside. from the basement i got a wireless transmittor that send the signal up to my room and connects to the modem and the modem connects to the pc.

I tried the test agian and now my upload is bigger than my download...

bah i cant do anything with those slow speeds...

yeah but your phone line originates from the outside. if its damaged on the outside then your inside is screwed. it could possibly be the wireless transmittor. is there a way you can hard wire the dsl connection? and may i ask why you have 2 separate lines? dsl doesnt interfere with phone calls.

it is probably the wireless transmittor. its fairly easy to run a new phoneline to your room unless its a 2 story house with a basement. if you google wiring a telephone you actually only connect 2 wires to where the line comes in from the outside.

it worked good before without the modem, like 3 weeks ago the company upgraded the technology and gave everyone the modem, before my pc was just connected with the trasnmittor and the connection was always good, so i dont think its the transmitter, but it might be, i'll just give em a call on monday or something and it is a 2 storie house.
