Internet Problems

I think this is the proper forum but if not, by means move it.

Below is the computer specs of my fathers computer:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (Socket AM2)
RAM: 4096MB DDR
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD2900XT 512MB (PCI-E)
Audio: Soundblaster Audigy2
Connection: Cable
Motherboard: Asus M2R32-MVP
Power Supply: OCZ
Router: Linksys WRT54G
Connection: Cable

This is what happens:

We moved in September, and as such, had to purchase a new router because we left it at our old place for them to use (Not happy about that btw, :D)

Anyway, for the last two months, his internet at sometimes would disappear and go into Limited Activity and as such loses his internet.

I've unplugged, replugged his cables into both ends, (computer/router). I've also disabled and re-enabled the network connection. I also pushed the reset button in the back. These barely work after the first time if at all and usually takes a long time to get it to work.

This has happened to me, twice, or three times now but he seems to have it reoccur several times and it's annoying no doubt.

I've direct connected his computer to the router, and that didn't make a difference either. I've done this myself and it worked after the first time. I have also re-installed the onboard drivers through the CD.

I don't know what else to do, and wonder if anyone else has had this problem in the past, specifically with this motherboard?

Remember that this apparently started when we moved to the apartment which is strange.

Thanks.

If it goes from regular connectivity to limited to none you are loosing connection between your computer and router. i would check the ethernet cord (if using one), or change the wireless channel by 3 (either way). Let me know if that helps..

That sucks and it can be many things causing these problems. First I would rule out that your router is not defective. My router has problems with ping sometimes and I get it through both my wired and wireless connection. So I doubt it is interference or weak signal.

Go to the routers website and see if they have a more recent firmware version, this helped me somewhat. I know its drastic and I wouldn't do it personally but look into a return policy as a final solution.

It could most definatly be the router. The wires could be it too. But I would say its the router if you are using the same cables you are using before you moved.

Actually we do have new cables along with the new router. Since the post it hasn't done it but if it does do it again I will take several things here into consideration.
