Internet providers UK

Hey all, this may be the noobiest question so be prepared to laugh (help would be great too)

I cant for the life of me work out what all the payments are for individual ISPs.

Could someone enlighten me on the best cheapest provider in the UK and what i will actually pay.

For example, say if i went with Virgin, do i pay bt a phone line as well as virgins? Do i just pay the fee, or do i need something extra.

It all literally confuses me as nothing seems to be set clear on the sites of the ISPs.

If anyone has experiance with a fairly cheap, unlimited ISP plan could you let me know roughly what id have to pay all inclusive a month. It would really help me out :P

Virgin - check if you have fibre optic first. If you on fibre optic, you don't need BT line.

If you need phone line, have a look at post office. Last time I checked, they offering phone line rental with no contract, just pay monthly.

While for cheap ISP, you can check out O2 or orange if you have their mobile phone. They are cheap.

However, I can't comment any of these customer service.

Orange, used to be Freeserve and Wanadoo. Not bad but expect lots of spam.

TalkTalk, not bad but part of the AOL group.

BT, fine if you want everything in one place.

PlusNet, unfortunately its based in Yorkshire :) they are also now owned by BT.

Virgin. Couldnt tell ya.

AOL. Wouldnt touch with a bargepole.

Are you looking at cable or ADSL? Where in the UK do you live, how close to your nearest exchange etc?

You can check out that information and which ISPs are available to you at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

If you are into downloading movies etc be careful of download limits on most of the packages. BT do an "unlimited" package for £20 per month.

HTH

To be honest im looking for the cheapest, unlimited internet i can get :p. Im currently on a 3 mifi contract dongle and it only has 15gb.

As for cable or adsl i couldnt care less as long as its atleast 5mbps and unlimited :P

Plusnet do £60gb a month for £20ish.

Have a look at the link I posted earlier to see how far from your exchange you are, that will make a difference to the speed you get.

Mike are you wanting just the Internet or are you wanting the Phone line aswell?

I know with VM you don't need a phone line or have to pay line rental if you just want the internet...thats what i have and pay £35 a month for 50mb (Download speed) unlimited downloads.

I know it may seem expensive,But its a good connection,Hardly ever down and even though they say that in peak times they might slow your connection down i still get around 49-50mbs which is very good.

They do cheaper connections,I think they do a 20,30,50,100 and now 120mb packages.

I would never go with an ISP that limits downloads,In this day and age its unacceptable.

Im literally looking for just internet. If possible no phone lines, no tv channels etc. I literally cant not have unlimited downloads, its killing me being on 15gb a month :P

How much is virgins cheapest unlimited internet all inclusive?

I cant work it out myself as it says its so much with a bt landline, so much without. It just confuses me :P

Right just had a look,If you want the cheapest connection (10mb download) it would be £16 a month for the first 3 months...then £21 a month after that for a 12 month contract.

Also says this-
Order now and we’ll double your broadband speed as part of our network upgrade starting February 2012

So you would get 30mb (speeds) package. ;)...Unlimited downloads.

Free Installation aswell.

If you do go with VM,Make sure you pay through Direct debit though,Or they will charge you monthly £5 payment handling fee. :)
and make sure you tell them you dont want a paper bill posted to you,Or that will be an additional £1.50 ish.
