When I type in anything into the address bar and click enter i get "Ask" results for it, i dont want this, i want google results, is there anyway to change it back. something did this under my nose

Many of those little bars at the top come with options. Check to see if it has an arrow or something right next to the box where you type and see if it offer Google. If not, right click on the top bar and uncheck the ask bar. Google "google toolbar" and download that one to use.

usually in IE8 or IE7 you get a little box looking like a address bar in the top right hang sign.

Click the arrow which is facing downwards and click google.
but before you click google, click manage search providers > after you click the arrow facing downwards.

Also, most browsers have those toolbars at the top. Make sure you don't have an Ask toolbar up there, and if you do just press the x button to get rid of it. This happened to me plenty of times I accidentally installed toolbars.
