What is the best free security software out?

What is the best paid security software out?

I run AVG and AVAST, which apparently I'm not suppose to do. AVG doesn't seem to do anything or find any issues. While when I run Avast it will find stuff. I think I'm going to delete AVG, but is there something better out there. Is there a real difference between paid and free. I here the big companies like norton takes up to much memory or space or however you put it. Help me, I need a push in the right direction.

I'm using Avast - the on-access scanner automatically scans files that I open while they are being opened, so it can stop viruses before the computer opens it and I've found this to be very helpful, although most anti-virus programs have this.
I'm using Firefox with an ad blocker add-on. I have windows so the windows firewall is always enable. This has worked for me just fine, if virus still manage to get through I just easily remove it with a few scan or do it manually.

uninstall complete. im getting the impression ya might have more than one program installed. I would not.

Yes deleted avg, d/l microsoft security essentials should or can I still keep AVAST?

Stick with Avast!, and remove that Microsoft program you just downloaded.

I've been running Avast! for years on every PC that's passed through my ownership. I can't remember the last time I've had a virus, and I frequently visit shady sites where Avast! blocks malicious content. It also integrates into Outlook and scans my incoming emails!

I'm not the only one who's had success with it, research them a bit more before making the decision.

You could also grab a copy of Malwarebytes and Spybot S&D for added protection, but they're not really needed unless a virus or spyware actually finds a way to make it into your PC. I used to run all three but removed all but Avast!.

@Michael: I woudn't use Avast!... AVG have much better test results and change is recommended... it has better internet securit aswell.

And everything else depends on usage of your PC... if you don't download games or cracks from torrents websites then you aren't in danger but anyway, AVG is better than Avast!

Some internet browsers may also have internet security add-ons too that you can download. I know Firefox has things like ad-block, web-of-trust add on, and you can view web ID and things like if the website is storing cookies on your PC.
