Internet speed

I have a question on internet speed. Right now, my direct download speed (using download manager) is about 1.2mbps but when IE or FF loads simple webpages, it takes quite long. I was previously using an internet connection with direct download speed of 300kbps. I observe that IE and FF loads webpages in about the same amount of time with both speeds. I figured this has something to do with my computer itself. So my question is can the loading time of web browser be improved through tweaking of some kind?

In my experience, your computer has to be pretty darn slow to noticeably effect web browsing.

What type is your connection? DSL/Cable/Satellite?

Not going illegal here but, if it is a torrent, it all depends on the torrent speed. The more seeds, the better.

Also can you pls do a speednet test and post the result.

Thanks

i think im using DSL. and i dont think my com is that slow. its specs are as follow:
Core 2 Quad 6600
2gb RAM
9600GT
Windows XP home XP2

and to cohen: no, i wasnt talkin about torrent. was just talkin about web browser alone. heres the test result

maybe im over reacting. on average, how long does it take for you guys to load a simple page, say one from yahoo news? for me, it takes like 15-20 sec. takes about the same time just to go to yahoo. lol. also, a lot of times, the status bar reports "done but with error on page" or page dont load properly (such as screwed up format and alignment or pictures dont load at all)

If they are overseas webpages, its limited by the connection to there. Try a speedtest.net to a different country and post results.

yeah, i think that is that case too. heres my test result with a server in the US. its about 5 times slower than my other test.

try a different web browser

for some unknown reason , even after a reformat, my laptop seems to take absolutely ages to open new tabs in IE7 or IE8 beta. firefox is no problem. Strange.
