Internet speed

Hello,

I have 30 Mbps internet but my wireless computer only gets around 9-11mbps. I have a rounter/modem (actiontec) that is about 2 rooms away. Its password protected and the only other electronics using wireless is my phone and ipad. I have full bars but my speed is just 1/3 of what Im paying for. I have a Wireless usb Belkin N card.

I was just wondering if there was anything I can buy to get closer to the 30 mbps. And I cant use direct ethernet cord hookup to it either unfortunately.

From what I've seen, having multiple devices connected to a router really screws with the speed for each. Kinda sucks to, because I would much rather have a high speed on my desktop and low one on my phone, not a decent speed on both.

You can use QoS to have more speed on the devices you want if your router supports it. Though, it might not even be the devices connected to it, and instead something else. Trying plugging in a Ethernet cable direct from your modem to your PC and do a speed test.

If you use a huge desktop and it's really hard for you to move it, borrow a laptop.

What model of Actiontec?
That's probably around the correct range if using G only.

Performance largely depends on other traffic on the spectrum.
