Iomega 400 GB HDD - parition file missing

Dear all,

This is my very first posting here and I'm looking for some kind of confirmation or reassurance that everything is going to be fine - or maybe you guys / girls have some advice, tips, pointers to give......

Two days ago, my HDD as stated above became unreadable due to missing partition file and due to serious disc corruption.

I downloaded a 99$ program which promised to take care of it, but could not do anything apart from stating the above error message.

I therefore took my HDD to a service station and they will try recover some of the 160 Gb of information stored on it.

I'm really worried about loosing anything from the disc. How big are the chances for full recovery, back up and so on....

And by the way, I know I should have backed the HDD up but I never came around to do it.. it's my own stupidity and slowness that makes this such a personal disaster.

Anybody care to give tips, ideas or pointers or let me know how big my chances are?

they should be able to get all of the data apart from what is corrupted, so i think at least 80% will be recovered.
you never know, only windows might have been corrupted so you may get 100%.

all the repair man will do is put your drive into another computer and try to copy the files across.

It really depends on where you took it for data recovery. Some places can recover data from all kinds of damage, but if it's just a local computer shop, they are likely to just use some software to try and recover data the way mattsprattuk said.
