IP Address Problem

hey guys, just have a quick question.

im a college student, and i take my notebook everywhere. all day, im connecting to different routers and what not, in different classroom buildings, in the library, in my house, and i have a problem. its nothing major, just more of an annoyance. randomly throughout the day, i have to reset my ip address. sometimes its 2-3 times a day, sometimes its closer to 8 or 9 times. it can happen when im connected to any network, if i just turned on my computer, or if it has been on and connected for 30 minutes, an hour, or 5 hours. it doesnt matter. im just wondering why i have to do this?

my connection just drops, and i lose all internet/network capabilities. to get it working again, i always have to reset my ip address, and its not hard, but is can be a major annoyance at times.

what could be causing this, and what can i do to fix it?

What do you mean by reset your IP address, do you mean that you have to repair the network connection. (either by using the repair utility or by using command prompt & ipconfig command) If your wireless card is randomly dropping it's possible that it's going bad. If you have some money to spare you could try purchasing a new one, or better yet, you could borrow one that goes in a pcmcia slot if you know anyone with one of those and see if you still have the problem.

thats exactly what is happening and what i have to do. thanks for the heads up, the laptop is almost 4 years old and ive upgraded a few things but havent even thought of replacing the wireless card. ill give that a shot
