IP scanner won't recognise a device I know is there

Hi guys!

I'm currently working my way through a whole networking, documenting all static IPs on the net. So, I'm using the program from Radmin called Advanced IP Scanner. It's amazing, but now I see that it won't recognize some of the devices I know is there.

An example:
I have a printer located at another office with the IP x.x.x.53, and I have access to that printer from my office. It's online, it's functional, and printing is not a problem. But when I run my IP scanner, it tells me the device is "unknown", which is the same as "no device detected on this IP".

I do on the other hand detect a whole lot of devices between the DHCP scopes (50 - 200). Is my scanner not scanning for static IPs from outside the scope given from the DHCP?

If anyone has any ideas or fixes for this, I would be a very happy child

Thnx in advance,
Mr. Moseng

Use another IP scanner. Not all IP scanners are the same, and some can pick up devices that others will not.

Does the printer respond to standard ping?

Some utilities use different methods for discovering hosts. You could always run an nmap or similar against the known address of the printer.

Static vs. DHCP shouldn't make a difference when responding to ICMP inquiries.

Thnx for the advice on nmap! Looks like I can detect it with this software.

Do you have any good links, or could you explain what it is that makes it undetectable for some scanners? Haven't read anything about that before.

Thnx again, beers!
