Ipconfig Problem

Hi guys I just went to Command Prompt today and typed in "ipconfig" and I get the following error:

"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

An internal error occurred: A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.

Additional information: Unknown media status code"

This is the first time I see this error.

Is there any ideas on this could of happened and how I can resolve it?

Well I have another computer on my wireless network... could that be the problem? I have had it on the network before and haven't had this problem before.
 
It could be that some how one got assigned the ip that the other one is using.
try to release and renew the address, ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
or shut one down and reboot the other and see what happens
 
Ok I do have a modem in my computer and I disabled it but I get the same message.

I do have multiple network adapters and it does show them in the device manager.

I went to the link you gave me and I don't know how to reset TCP/IP so maybe you can help me with that.

I also went to the "Troubleshooting winsock 2 corruption issue" and the command "netdiag /test:winsock" doesn't seem to work. I get this message:


" C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>netdiag/test:winsock
'netdiag' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."
 
If this is a IP conflict between the 2 systems I beleave the one that has the address first is the one that maintains the address, but you would have a error on the system that causes the conflict
about the IP already in use, this maybe a issue with the multiple NICs in this one system and has nothing to do with the other system.

ipconfig should show you info on all your adapters just as ipconfig /all shows you all the info on all your adapters.

Also ipconfig /renew will renew the addresses of all adapters. I would give this a try
If all else fails I would disable one and renew the address on the other and run ipconfig and see what you get then reenable it and see what you get.
this should resolve your issue.

Ok I will give it a try. By the way when you say "Disable one and renew the address on the other" you mean shut down the other computer that is able to get "ipconfig" or do you mean to do "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew"?

you said you do have multiple network adapters.

the firsh thing i would do is ipconfig /renew on the system with the issue and
ipconfig and see if you get the same error.

next i would disable all network adapters in your system exept the one you are using and use repair in network connections on the one that is still enabled.
see if you get the error

dont even bother with the other computer. I dont think it has anything to do with your issue now that
you have said you have multiple network adapters in the one with the issue
