So here is my rant of the day and anyone thinking of buying a new iphone5. So I've had a basic phone since 1990 and finally upgraded to a new smart phone (iphone5). Everything seems to work ok, but the wifi is a joke. My phone won't connect to a wifi connection no matter what. Apple is aware and there are countless issues reported. I went to the apple store tech support where one thread alone had over 142,000 hits, let alone other same topic threads reported on the same site. I just wanted something basic with email and simple to use. It seems this way, just no wifi. Meanwhile I'm just using up data.....Urgh it gets better. So after researching all the soooo called fixes, I called tech support and told them everything I tried. They chuckled and said don't google it, isn't that like saying don't look????? Anywho they said you need a new phone and that they'd send one right away........ Here is the kicker and no I'm not joking Nov. 2nd?????? WTF for real??????? So maybe I try an android???? K, done ranting....... Feel better now. I think they released this product premature and are just trying to catch up to what Samsung and Motorola already have.......

Iphones usually have problems, I remember when the iphone 4 came out it's two biggest issues was the antenna and the glass back which was suppose to be 10 times stronger then plastic which may have been true but it does not have the ability to flex as much so you seen more iphone 4 with the cracked back and front.
I don't think Apple actually test there products as far as they should before release and this may because they know that true apple users will continue to follow there product lines even if they have quality problems.

The iPhone 5 has an aluminum back so that problem is virtually eliminated, just thought I'd point that out, DMGrier.
This is the first I've heard of these issues, Compequip. Tell me, how many Wifi networks have you tried connecting to?
And if they're sending you a new phone for free don't complain, there's other companies out there that would make you buy a whole new phone.

I would like to point out I was talking about the iphone 4. Yes I am aware the iphone 5 has a aluminum back, apple figured that out with the amount of complaints of the glass back in the iphone 4.
What I was getting at is a company that builds at a higher standard and thinks there products out has made some BIG mistakes, the iphone 5 seems solid but to hear a fellow member on the forum complain about it only makes sense considering how well built the iphone 4 was, and yes I had a iphone 4S which by far the worst phone I have ever had.
+1 to the Android, you get a better phone for the price and I would put my Galaxy S3 against the iphone 5 with no worries.

I think being able to wipe a GS3 with a small line of HTML is more of an issue than whatever else is the matter with the iPhone.
Don't complain???? This is the first day and it doesn't work. Buy a new phone??? Have you heard of a warranty??? In the state I live (CA) I have 30 days to return a phone with no fee. Yes there sending another one, but I have to wait until Nov. Also just google it.... or go to iphone tech support page... Anywho, just wanted to share with ppl looking for a new phone. I'm sure this will get worked out with maybe a software fix, but as of now it's glitchy. This is the only issue I'm having with the phone and I can say for a first time user, it is very easy to navigate.

Sorry, that's complete crap. Warranty's exist for this exact reason, Apple isn't just insanely awesome for replacing your screwed-out-of-the-box phone.

Not that I'm saying Samsung's touchwiz wiping exploit is ok (tsk tsk). It's just this stuff happens and to compare a security loophole in software to a hardware/software interfacing bug is just lame, for this reason;
Hands up Samsung touchwiz users, how many of you have encountered this exploit and have had your phone wiped? Quick, before Samsung patches their software!

Depending on what it is there's 14-30 days to return a defective product, whether it's a screwdriver or a $900 phone. The manufacturers warranty isn't even in effect at this point. Pretty sure it's like a law or something. Even after that, I've never heard of a company not honoring a valid warranty for no reason. This does not include extended or a third party company warranty.
No no, that wasn't the point, the point was, it doesn't matter what system you run, you're vulnerable. Pretty sure most people aren't browsing the foreign depths of the internet on their cell phones. Usually it's the sites you frequent and are used to, and the chances are quite small.
Edit: actually this post got me thinking, To the Original Poster, if you purchased it from a physical store you may be able to get an exchange or something..if they have some sort of warranty stock

Well just to give you a heads up, they are making me pay for another phone by credit card, then when they receive my old one back they will credit me.
I have Verizon wireless service, so I purchased directly for Verizon. They said I could take it to an apple store, but I'm still messing with this thing. Update I've been able to get it working really well on 1 wifi system so far.
Yeah I have the insurance also, but unfortunately they had no new iphone5's in stock at the store. I even over heard another customer trying to buy a new iphone5 and was told the same.

First of all Im amazed that your going from a 1990s phone experience to a modern one, it must be mind blowing or confusing. But with the technicality of todays mobiles there more things to go wrong. I agree some times a phone should just be able to do what a phone was supposed to do call and txt, but these days that could mean 3 days talking to support or waiting months to fix the problem. Apart from that I have owned the first iphone and now the iphone 4s both I love and find extremely useful with all the great apps that are programmed for them. Sad to hear that you had a bad start but I would defiantly recommend sticking it out with apple. A great alternative would be Samsungs galaxy 3 which operates on android.

Actually it wouldn't be, because you can wipe that thing with a single line of HTML. If you're going Android I recommend going with a Google Nexus device.
Update on the phone, it's working great. All I'm going to admit to is user error 
....... This phone is easy to use and has been a great first time experience to a smart phone. I'll admit, it's different..... But so far I love voice recognition, it's been working great. I love being able to talk to the phone to call, text or search on the web. I love the camera it has, I like the way the voice mail is set up with a play, pause, etc feature. I really like how fast it receives my emails. I need to learn alot more about this phone, but not comparing it to anything else but an old school phone, I'd highly recommend this phone. From what I'm told the new Android's do all this and even more along with customizable options. For me being my first, I wanted simple and easy as possible.
