iPod and mouse conflict

Whenever my son's iPod is plugged in the PC, and I need to restart the PC, the mouse is frozen. Like tonight, had a software update that required restarting the PC to take effect. I forgot about the iPod, and then had to "Remove hardware" and restart the PC with the keyboard, which is no fun in Windows. I'm running WinXP SP2, the mouse is a PS2, and the iPod connects on a USB port.

I suspect that the mouse and iPod have some sort of conflict, IRQs, or memory address or something.

Anyway, how do I check that and fix it?

TIA!

We tried all the UBS ports, we have 2 in the front and 4 in the back, but it does the same thing. Thank you for the suggestion :)!

Have you checked for the latest iTunes and iPod update? There have been some new software updates recently that might solve the problem. And since this is a problem with all the USB ports, it's probably a problem more with the motherboard than a specific port.
