Well if you use it on the computer it is tied to you can delete songs, but you can't just load them onto other computers to prevent against piracy that is why apple did that.

well I have some songs on my ipod I don't listen to anymore. I can just take them off my ipod via a usb cable and a computer?

And the computer that you put the songs on from originally.

go to my computer double click on your ipod drive go TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW and under HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS select the option that says SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS then you should see a transparent folder and in there are your songs

to take off songs delete them from your itunes library, as what is in your iPod is an aexact mirror of your itunes library, assuming there is enough space it will just copy over everything in your library, and delete stuff from your ipod that is no longer in you library.
I wouldn't do it manually through my computer as i would have expected that by doing tht you could somehow mess up your ipods index of the music

nonesense i do manually everytime you dont touch the ipod settings/drivers all you open is the music folder
and even if you mess up your ipod you can always update/reinstall the firmware again

wel whatever way, using itunes is the easest way to do it, and the way it is supposed to be done, and this is what is in my ipod's music folder:

Seems totallyillogical to drag and dop, when you can use plug and play instead
