ipod problem

my brother for some reason while the ipod was plugged in, right click 'safely remove hardware' at the bottom right of the desktop where it's got the stuff near the clock, then he changed at the bottom of the screen device usage from, 'Use this device (enable)', to 'do not use this device (disable)'. now the computer doesn't seem to recognise the ipod anymore, can anyone help me in fixing this problem please?

uh.....i dont know but i usualy just click remove ipod from itunes, than safely remove it then when i want to listen to songs, i plug it in

try a system restore
 
You should be able to reverse that setting in the Device Manager. Click start / control panel. Double click on "System", select the hardware tab and click on Device Manager. You should be able to find the iPod entry in the tree, when you do, right click on it and click properties, that'll show you the same screen where it was disabled. Select enable and click OK.

A system restore is definately not nessecary.
 
that's the thing though, it doesn't atually have the ipod detected in the device manager...plus for some reason the device manager keeps flashing constantly every 3 or 4 seconds.

somewhere else i read that the only way to reverse the disable was to 'physically removed and reinserted' or if 'the system is rebooted'.

i've already tried removing and inserting hundreds of times, but what and how exactly do i reboot it?
 
It sounds like you might have to uninstall Itunes and the ipod usb drivers alltogether and install them again. The last time I used an ipod, I had to use it's CD, which installed Itunes and the necessary usb drivers for the ipod all together in one setup. It could be a solution, I don't know if this has changed or not, but just a thought.

One other thing is if there are other unused usb ports, you can try plugging it into one of those.
 
i had almost the same problem about two weeks ago, when u plugin your ipod does it come up as 'removable disk' in my comuter or does it just not recognise anything at all?
