iPod question

This might be a stupid question but I've never owned an iPod so please bear with me. I'm thinking of getting a video iPod soon, so I'd like to learn more about the product before buying. Here are my questions:

If I remove the the file from iTunes and deleted it, will there be a complication once I sync the iPod? Basically I'd like to keep songs in the iPod even after deleting them from my laptop's HDD.

What will happen if I use a different computer to load songs into the iPod?

Hope you can help me out. Thanks!

I'm not too sure about the iTunes one (deleting the files on the laptop), but I'm pretty sure you can't sync from someone else's computer without losing your own music .

Yeah you'll lose your music, best to try and back your music up, but is that illegal yet?

I have a Ipod nano and I don't know if you can delete the file. But if you move the file and still have it checked on Itunes it will not sync and it will delete the song off the Ipod. I would buy one I love mine. Hope that helps.:)

The only thing I like about iPods is the menu interface... but not too much, there's still a lot more options on my 1gb iRiver.

Ok, time to clarify some of the functions of the iPod. When using iTunes, you can choose to sync your entire music collection, or only transfer certain files to the iPod. The only time when you will have a problem transferring files from a different computer is if the computer is a Mac and your iPod is PC formatted, or something like that.

In iTunes, the iPod is listed as a device, and you can access all the files located on it. If you want to remove some files to transfer some other ones on there, you can do that by editing the list of files in iTunes.

To solve both problems you need to enable "manual sync" this will alow you to keep the songs on your iPod and wipe them from your HDD

Also, you can sync from a diffrent computer by the same method, draging the songs you want to the iPod via iTunes.

I suggest you get another video player. My friend has this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855102002
I have seen it beside and iPod video and this is just beautiful compared to it. Also the ipod video is more expesive and the Zen Vision supports many common video formats. I recommend you get the Zen Vision:M if you want a video/mp3 player. You wont be sorry and you dont have to deal with all the BS Apple forces onto iPod users. The only drawback is that it is 30GB compared to the iPods 60GB but since you have a lot more format options, you can compress videos smaller than you could on the iPod and at better quality.
