is 2x1 the same as 4x512

Basically, yes... However, most motherboards will run in 2T mode when using 4 sticks(or 2 in non-dual channel mode) It's slightly slower than your typical 1T mode, but many argue how much slower.
 
I think that 2x1 gig sticks are better because it leaves room for upgrading, with 4x512 sticks you really can't upgrade
 
yeah , but its too late because they are already ordered (i dint order them) and i just wanted to know if the perofrmance will be the same

It depends on the motherboard, but typically I don't beleive so. At least not with 4 sticks.

As for it's meaning, I have yet to find a very clear explanation about it... I just know lower numbers are better :o
 
lol thats what i know too

and one more RAM question, not related to this but i didnt want to start a new thread. i have read that with the evga 680i and corsiar 2.1 volt RAM the board might not POST because of the voltage. is this true, because as long as it POSTS you can just change the voltage, but i have read that another cheap stick is needed to get it to POST to change the voltages for the new sticks.
