Is 3 gigs enough?

Hi

I am going to buy a core i7 therefor I suppose only 3 channel memories can be used. Here is my question shall I go for 6 gigs right now or stick for now with 3 gigs and once I need more buy the other 3 gigs later.

I was thinking of playing games like (Gta 4, Far cry 2) do I need for these 6 gigs or 3 are just enough?

3 gigs will be enough to play those games, imo buy 3 now and if you see the need for more get it later, when the prices are down a little bit more (assuming they go down relatively fast)

I have 3 Gigs of ram and I can play Fallout 3 on Ultra Settings. I also have a 4870x2 Graphics card, I also have that processor so you should do just fine with 3 Gigs of ram.

3 gigs of DDR3 memory would be more than sufficient. I plan on doing the same soon when I upgrade. 3 gigs of ddr3 1600mhz and an i7.

3 gigs will be enough but 5-6 would make things run faster. I am going to tell you this look at the specs for the games you will be playing and see how much ram is required and go with 1-2 more than the common number you find I have done this and it works

3 gigs is plenty ;)

i dissagree,i went from 4gb to 5 and noticed no diffrence whatsoever,
.
also to note that no game currently us that much ram even crysis.

I wen't from 4 to 6 & all I noticed was a boot speed increase :D

realy? it was slower on mine...also to note my 3d mark score went down lol.

but the other gig stick was not OCZ,it was GEIL so they wasnt matched sticks which probably didnt help.

unless your planning on going for more than 4 gigs of system memory (graphics and ram) its prob best to go for 32 bit as it is is compatible with more stuff.

If you are using 64 bit then it is prob best to get 4 gigs if you are planning on gaming.

Well I have windows xp 32-bit and my computer recognizes my 3 gigs or system ram and my 2 gigs of video ram. So 32-bit doesnt cap out at 4 gigs total ram, just system ram. Thats just a stupid rumor.
