Is 500watt enough?

my setup down below with the cpu overclocked @ 3GHz. For those Rosewill haters out there, I got 5 out 5 on newegg with 126 reviews so to me thats sweet regardless of rosewills reputation. I'm just wondering if 500watt is enough to overclock my cpu to 3GHz.

Thanks

I was under the impression that rosewill made fairly decent power supplies, ah well, maybe i was wrong...

But yeh, its more the amperage on the rails that counts for more than the wattage of the PSU as a whole. Looking at it, it has dual 12v rails one at 16A and one at 18A, For that system in your sig is perfectly fine. Overclocking to 3Ghz shouldnt really take that much more, you might well be able to get it that high without touching the vCore, if thats the case then that PSU will do perfectly fine

I think you should be fine because if you system runs stable with a 500w PSU right now than overclocking won't give it too much of a push. Try it out, if it doesn't work clear CMOS. I think you'll be fine.

k, ya i think rosewill is a great psu, most of their psu's get 5 out of 5 with user reviews. Just some people for some reason think they suck. The people that buy them seem to like them :)

btw, thanks guys for the help!

It will certainly work. You can get the RP550-2 instead, if you prefer - only a few dollars more and an extra 4A on the +12V rails.

Rosewill are a mixed bag, they use a whole variety of different manufacturers, ranging from Deer and Powmax (who are some of the worst around), to Wintech and ATNG. The unit you're looking at is an ATNG unit, and actually surprisingly good for the price.

I'd question the validity of user reviews, though. In most cases all a good user review means is that the PSU didn't blow up when they plugged it in. Additionally, the overall technical competence of a lot of the newegg reviewers is so bad that you'd have to wonder if they could tell a PSU from a brick!
