is 550 watts enough to run all this or should i get 750 watts

xfx geforce 8800 ultra
2 gigs of corsair ram
amd athlon 3.1 ghz
250 gb HD
thermaltake ruby orb cpu fan
lite on dvd drive
acer 22 inch lcd
xfx 8200 motherboard
5 watt case fan

It has nothing to do with wattage. OP, please state which PSU you are using, but almost certainly a 550W Psu will not provide sufficient amperage on the 12V rail, particularly if it only has ATX design standards.

I'd say the Corsair 750 watt would be an overkill. Maybe the Corsair 620 or 650 watt PSU. Eitherway, I doubt that computer would pull over 500 watts of power.

to be honest i think the psu would work
my system is on ya 550w Rosewill right now, and works fine, even with the overclocks, my extra hdd, and more fans than yours.

Its not about wattage, more about the 12V rail amperage and efficiency, and btw Rosewills are a POS!

I'm sticking to my original statement. my $50 rosewill has powered the current computer for 6 months now. The computer before this had Rosewill 400w, and that's lasted 2 years no issues.

If you get a good quality 550W unit, you'll be fine. Sure, you won't have a ton of leeway for future upgrades, but for your current specs, it'll handle it no problem.
