Is 75 C CPU temp for real?

I just got onto this forum not long ago and I discovered MBM5 from reading posts on here. I just had my system built by a friend back in January of this year. I've just recently became interested in doing a few minor upgrades and figuring out what I really had for a system. The system is in a Dynex ATX mid tower. There is only one 80mm fan on the back and a seperate fan for the PSU. I have no idea if the CPU HSF is stock or not but it looks stock. Aluminum with a small case type fan on it. Doesn't seem to be blowing much air. After installing MBM5, it says that my CPU temp is 75 C and my case is usually between 70-75. Are these readings correct? My computer has been idle for about an hour and I just got back on. It said CPU temp was 36 C and jumped up to 75 in about 1 second and just stays there. Could this be a faulty reading? The air comming out of the back of the case doesn't seem really hot. Also, the fan on the PSU seems to be doing nothing. It spins but I can't feel any air come out? Or does it suck fresh air in from the back side? OH, CPU is a Celron Northbridge 128 2.7Ghz running at 3.023Ghz. Thanks

Ok, so do you think its a crappy HSF or could it even be a bad reading? Would OC'ing the CPU just a little make it much warmer? Its a 2.7Ghz and its only OC'ed to 3.023Ghz. I ordered a Jet 4 HSF but I was wanting to know if you think those numbers are right. It wouldn't be a false reading would it? Why would the motherboard temp jump up that high also? I don't get it, you would think the air comming out of the back would be really hot.

umm yea... those temps aren't that great at all. if it were my cpu those temps would be dangerous... but its a little less dangerous for yours (however still very unhealthy) to be running that hot.
what socket do you have... for a very quick and efficient fix you could buy an arctic freezer... it comes for 478, and 775. it also comes for K8 but i assume you need an intel version.

Am I the only one who sees another potential problem? Wasnt MBM5 discontinued a long time ago? Try speedfan and see if it gives you the same temps, or if you can, look in the BIOS.

MBM5 alwase gave me incorrect readings, Speedfan hasnt failed me yet (it also lets you see many more different sensers and even controll your fans)

Ok, thanks. Its weird, it will go from around 36 C to 76 C in about 1 second for CPU temp. Doesn't seem like it would really do that. Speedfan shows temp 1 jumping all around, temp 2 75 C, temp 3 65 C and another temp 1 at 40 C. But it doesn't say which temp is for which part of the comptuer. Yeah, temp 2 it 75 C but that doesn't tell me much. I might try seeing what I can get for a temp on the HSF with my IR thermometer tommorrow.
