hey guys. well i used to have a 256 connection then the company upgraded it to 500 something. i was wondering if upgrading it to 1mega would be noticeable? my isp offers 1, 2, 5 and 10 mega service. do i really need a 2,5 or 10 one to play games online? because with the 500 (dsl speed) connection i have i experience a bit of lag. do i need more than 1 mega? over here 1 mega costs 40 dollars and i can't affort to pay 60 for 2 and 80 for 5. so i was wondering. thanks for your help.

you're on a 500k/s at the moment? That's really slow, unless you actually download at 500k (which would be amazing!). I've got an 8mb connection which is considered about average in the uk I reckon, and it basically means I get around 800k a second download speeds (with a slightly shit isp). Get as fast as you can afford, at least 2mb I'd say.

Wow! Thats alot of money for your ISP. I would get at least a 2megabit connection for gaming. I have had a 1mbit DSL connection, and now i have a 30mbit fiber line. Very noticable difference in speed. I would get the fastest you can afford.

I have a 5MB cable line connection. I actually get about 4.5-4.75. I usually have anywhere from a 250-500 kbs download. It's about 50-60 bucks a month. The ISP is udder crap when it comes to service. When the temp changes from cool spring to hot summer, the cables expand and contract and the internet goes out anywhere from a minute, all the way up to 24 hours. They look at it and say everything is fine, but it's not. (BTW, it's Charter Communications on the East Coast of the U.S.)

My school has a 10 MB connection, but it's slow for some reason. (Too many people on the web at once?) Usually people are in class, so who could be using the speed?

That's a ripoff for internet. I have an 8 Meg connection here and it's just over $50 CAD. Ugh. You guys are getting hosed big time down there.

We'd LIKE to move to something better and cheaper, but they are the only DSL company in my area. All there is besides that is 56/k dial-up.
