is AM2 buggy?

I am going to upgrade to an am2 motherboard and processor.

But some people complain that AM2 processors/mobos are buggy and aren't complete yet. Is that true or is it ok to get am2 hardware?

Well My limit is around $500, I may be able to get more, but I only need a processor, motherboard, Memory, and case/cpu combo.

What I found is

Athlon Windsor 4000 x2

Tforce 550 motherboard. I don't know if its a better choice than the tforce 6100

OCZ 1gb ddr2 (pc2 5400)

PC115 case/350watt psu

no, I know that.

My point was I could get the 4000 for a bit more and it had 1mb per core
With the 3800 only having 512kb per core.

Oh, I though you meant the 4000+, not the X2 4000+, sorry:o . The X2 4000+ would be a nice choice. I know that on the 24th, the price of the X2 3800+ is dropping to $169, im not sure about the rest of the cpu's though.

Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I didn't say what core it was :D

Well AM2 hasn't been around a while. I'm assuming no AM2 processors will drop. But I'm just guessing

lol, ur just beggin me to get the 3800 arent you :)

as for the motherboard, ram, and case/psu, I posted what I was plannin on buyin earler. Take a look at those

And 2 gb? I dont think I will need that much until Vista comes out.

That stuff looks good except for the case and PSU. I would get something different. Motherboard looks great as does the RAM.

Here's my deal with dual core chips... unless you multitask like a beeotch, the dual core is over rated. My old (and now dead) box had a P4 1.8 with 1GB RAM and I could dowload music, burn a CD, and work with photoshop at the same time.

If you're into gaming get the single core at the higher speed. It'll last you for a couple of years... THEN you can get the dual core when the software becomes mainstream- and that's why you stick with the AM2 board.

Seriously, WTF did people do BEFORE the DC chips came out? I think DC will have a time and place- but not just yet. Fast single CPU's are still driving the software- so go with a nice single core CPU and buy a nicer PSU or vid card.

Just my $0.02

The thing is, I really need a DC
I don't only game. I download/listen to music and video files, I burn and rip CD's, convert files, have more than one game running, and I do all of that simultenously. Plus the fact that Dual core is Future-ready.

If you ever ran a dual-core, you would see how much better it is than a single core. When you have several windows open, or a program such as anti-virus or encoding program running, you dont even notice a slow down with a dual-core like you would on even a super fast single core.
