is bandwidth usage my fault????

:( Hi,

I hope someone on here can help me out. I basically know nothing about comouters and im having hugeeeeeeeee problems with my internet speed. I live in an apartment over my landlords house and share his internet connection. For months I would find that I was disconnected from the net only to find out recently that hes been taking my connection out. Hes blaming me saying that because I use Ares its slowing down his connection. But i have friends who have 4 people in house sharing one connection each downloading at about 100KB while my speed goes to a max of 10KB. So i stopped using Ares but the speed it still 10KB and he still blames it on me because i cant talk back when he used computer lingo with me? I just wanted to know is it me??? Does Ares really take away that much bandwidth? I need to say something to this guy so that he will stop restricting my bandwidth.
 
You can manage to share the bandwidth equally using any bandwidth limitation program. If you are all over the same network (LAN), you can setup 1 PC and make it as a server and setup ISA server on it and limit the badnwidth per user, but this will require that you keep this computer running all the time as well as any failure in this PC will result in the internet going down for everyone.

Another concern is what is the speed of the internet connection you are sharing? 10k is too slow for a cable connection as far as I know.
 
One thing, your landlord is restricting your bandwidth and playing a joke on you. Because if your bandwisth is the same no matter what then it;s probably him.

Hellbreather is 100% correct, this guy is getting the whole bandwidth and limiting yours probably to 10k. Check if he is using iMesh or Kazaa :eek:
 
Theres your problem, because he's restricting your bandwidth you can't do much really so you'll either have to ask him to restricting it some much or just put up with it lol. Either that or d some old fashioned hacking, Although I wouldn't recommend that because that could get you into a lot of trouble
