Is CCleaner Registry Issue Scanner Safe?

Hello everyone,

I just installed CCleaner to use to clean up temp files, and whatnot, but I did a quick issue scan in the registry section and a bunch of items came up.

As a novice, I don't really have a deep understanding of the Windows registry, and to be honest, I am not very knowledgeable about Windows in general, because I have used Macs up until I built my new computer a couple weeks ago.

My question is simple, really. As a novice, is it safe to just allow CCleaner to "fix" my registry, or should I leave well enough alone?

Just as an example, I was using "Skyfonts" ... it is a syncing tool that syncs Google Fonts to your computer without downloading the font files. I just uninstalled Skyfonts, and CCleaner has a ton of "Font Errors" that are calling Skyfonts.

Again, I just wanted to double check to make sure it is safe to use CCleaner without know exactly what it is doing?

Cheers!

It's best to leave the registry alone. You can do more damage then good and you don't really gain any performance.

I'm not worried so much about performance, as I built a pretty decent build. I'm more concerned with the fact that the registry is looking for things that aren't there anymore, such as these fonts. Is that a normal thing? Like I said, I'm not used to Windows.

Is everyone's registry like that, pretty much?

Unused file extensions won't hurt anything. The active X thing is usually for only your Internet Explorer browser which I hope you don't use. And as far as the fonts go, when you uninstall programs sometimes left over entries are still there. Revo uninstaller is a good program to use when uninstalling programs.

ive messed up my directory with registry cleaners before, you don't really need to clean them

Yup.

To be honest, I do the registry cleanups with CCleaner and never had any problems. Then again, I never really see any benefit from doing them apart from when I was on Windows 7 years ago and sometimes doing a registry cleanup with CCleaner would temporarily stop my hanging shut down problems that I used to have - but I think those were more caused by bad RAM than the registry.
