Is DDR ram twice as better than SD ram?

hey just to make sure, DDR ram is twice as better than SDram right? like 256mb DDR ram is equal to 512mb SDram, or 512mb DDR = 1gig SDram?

because i am thinkin of this laptop that has 1gig SDram instead i can just get a 512mb ddr ram laptop

You cant compare 512MB SD to 1GB DDR, because if an app says it requires 1GB, it will work on the SD but not on the DDR.

DDR has much better speeds and is usually cheaper anyways, go with the DDR. You can upgrade to more later.
