Is external hard drive more vulnerable?

I have got a Seagate Expansion 3.5 hard disks of 4T, which is external and vertical as well, ''standing'' vertically besides my desktop PC always.

I found that the hard disks could sometimes produce some sudden and temporary vibration that I could feel.

When I upload files to a remote server on this drive. It usually takes much longer to upload, and sometimes the files are ''stuck'' and not uploaded in the middle of its way.

I'd like to know

1. Is external hard drive like this (standing vertical) more vulnerable? It was only bought 6 months ago. Newer than most of my internal hard drives.

2. How can I test to see if the hard drives are working perfectly and are not defected?

Thank you!

What interface is it using? A lot of times windows will lie to you about transfer rate and it looks like it 'hangs' while the actual transfer rate catches up.

They're more "vulnerable" to physical elements as they aren't protected by a larger case like your PC's, but should still function similarly if you haven't mishandled it.

Yes external drives are more vulnerable to damage/corruption, either due to physical issues such as them knocking over or falling down. They also have a greater chance at becoming corrupt from being unplugged without first being properly removed, as well as overall just using cheap internal controllers.
