Is HD TV already upconverting by itself

Just read on another forum that most current HD LCD TVs are upconverting SD inputs to display in its local HD resolution. If that's true, would I still want a upconverting DVD player? Isn't that redunant? It just doesn't sound right. Any body knows better?

What? Don`t you mean upscaling?
I know there are HDMI DVD players out there now that upscale to a HD rez but its not True HD!
As far as upscaling a normal broadcast signal it wont be HD, It can be streched out over the screen but not a True HD resolution.

Some newer LCDs come with features like TruD, DVB and contrast enhancement.
