Is iMac my desire desktop?

Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm not knowledgeable about computer specs.

I am looking for a good desktop that will make my graphic designing and video editing easier and smoother
I also wanted to enjoy playing games with high quality graphics.
Although I only play them occasionally like when I'm having a break or when I'm bored. I only play dota 2 or battlefield 3, I also want to play more games but I usually uninstall them when I got bored out of it or when they're starting to become a display to my desktop.

Do you think iMac fits my desire desktop ?

My friend told me that it's better to invest on a self upgrade computer so I can save more money.

But my mom is planning to buy me 27 inch iMac ($1799) this summer

If you are in my situation right now, what would you choose?
iMac or Well Built PC and why?

I realized that a lot of graphic designers used iMac.
Just wondering what do graphic designers see in iMac ?

iMacs are more content creation focused, and people like them for their ease of use.

PCs are cheaper, you can build them yourself, and are better for gaming, but take up more space, and supposedly aren't as user friendly as Mac.

There are a wider variety of games and apps for PC though

what do you mean that PC takes up more space ?
 
Not sure how well the iMac performs in games but if you are into gaming then I would probably recommend buying or building your own PC. For $1800 you can build a great machine even if throw a lot into a really nice monitor. A gaming PC for around $1400 (let's say $400 for a monitor) will perform very nicely and you won't be dissatisfied.

From a compatibility and performance point of view the PC tends to be much better than an iMac for gaming and of course a gaming PC is more than capable of running graphic and video editing software. Heck, I run Adobe CC 2014 on my first gen Surface Pro. :D So I think the PC is probably the better all-rounder but at the end of the day it's your decision.
