i have a intel celeron D 3.06 ghz and my comp seems faster than my buddies pentium 4, playing games, boot time and everything, we have around the same hardware also. is it realy that bad? im getting world of warcraft soon so should i upgrade?

I am running the same processor you are, and haven't have any problems at all. Has worked very well for me. I don't think you need to change.

It's an ok budget processor, better than the Celeron (without D). How much ram does your friend have? Also, did you just install your operating system?

Celeron D's are okay processors, but they are extremely poor performers when it comes to games. Semprons are a lot better in games, and even better then some Pentium 4's.

What speed is your friends P4, and what video card do you both have?

I got that one in my dads E-machine. Its a nice lil fella, but can't use it for gaming because I got not PCI-E card for it...But I did do performance test on it and my god did it do well. Not on the graphics part though ( no GPU)

yea pentium 4 isn't that good in my opinion either... not for gaming at least.
celeron d is more of a managed computer processor on a network, or home computer processor... for internet and music and such.. just a budget processor
anyways, video card and amount of ram will matter more for gaming, depending on the game... though processor speed still does matter.

I got the celeron D 2.93ghz and overclocked it to 3.4 with stock heatsink and fan and I can play Far Cry, DOOM 3, and Half-Life 2. They are the best bang for the buck IMO and my celeron will out perform my friends 3.2 with HT. They make realy cheap water cooling kits for these chips for like $60 I was thinking about getting one and see if I can crank it up to 3.8 or even 4.0ghz...lol.

But like others said I dont think it is so much you CPU as it is your video card that makes the difference.
