Is it illegal to install software on two computers?

Say if I install adobe on my desktop and on my laptop and I am the only one who uses them.

It depends on the software. Read the Terms of Use Policy.

Most software will let you, other software will not. Most software that has a CD-Key or similiar form of identification/validation can only install on one machine, as it will "use up" the license to that paticular piece of software.

Really? All games on steam can install on multiple PC's and even if you bought it as a cd you dont need it.

that's bcuz' with Steam you have an account. you can login to your account on any computer and have games registered to that particular account.

with other software, the CD-Key is registered to that specific computer, not an account or individual user. if licenses were registered to users, you could go on any computer in the world and install your software, as long as you were the one doing it.

yes... read the terms & conditions.

some will let you install on multipule computers solong as you are the only one using it and only have the software open on 1 pc at any given time.

others specify that you cannot have it installed on multipule computers even if you are the only one using it.

the same goes for music cd's

yea it'll depend on what it is.. but adobe.. you should have no problem with it..

some requires you to purchase multiple serials allowing you to install on several computers. most of them should let you know this before buying or downloading it...

i have adobe cs2 on laptop and 3 home pc.. worked flawless

there are also mechanisms built into some programs that recognizes your hardware and system and required different serials for every pc/laptop isn't the same.. they can do it that way also.

everythings legal aslong as they dont catch u... **** them with their policys. If i pay 50 dollars for a cd with software on it. I own that damn cd and will use it as I please. whats mine is mine. When u pay for a cd does it say ur renting it? no i dont think so. **** them!

i would think of it as this, if you paid for it, then using it on your laptop and desktop shouldnt be a problem, since its not like your giving it to other people, and if you have it installed on 10 machines, you cant use it anymoer then if its installed on only 1 machine.

Photoshop (the new one) requires an activation, but i dont believe the others do.

well of coerce I can install adobe on two comps, you can install practically any pies of software on as many comps as you like, even Norton Internet Security witch you have to register online can be installed on mutable machines, I was just curios if it was legal or not.
