Is it ok to replace a power supply with one of a different wattage?

If your power supply goes bad, and say it's a 250W power supply, do you have to replace it with one with the same wattage, like say one that's 350W, or do you have to use one with the same exact wattage?
 
Yep, you can always go up, just make sure the big connector has the same number of pins as the old one(it will be 20 or 24 pins) most newer ones are 24 pins

It's okay to replace one with higher wattage. It's not going to overload the computer if that's what you're saying. It gives what the computer needs. So yes, it's safe to replace a 250W with a 350W.
