Is it possible and how long would I have to wait?

Could I compress a 50gb hard disk in 7-zip on Win98 and, if so, how long would it take? Would it be better to simply save the files on an external medium?
 
would take forever. dont bother. on the otherhand if i was going that route i would just copy to an external hd. one option for huge file would be an iso or image file. going a step further you could create par files off the image then create repair par files. if ya zipped up 50 gig and had corruption it would stop.
