I'm not entirely sure what you are asking, you can connect both at the same time if that's what you mean.

flash drive is portable. carry in your pocket. Not unusual. small utilities, pictures or what ever. SSD is good as internal backup.

Thank you for you're responces.
there are files/folders that an SSD will benifit from them not being on the SSD. those can be redirected. would it benifit the SSD's performance to have any of those on a flash, if the flash is an option. if so, do you have a recommend for what to put on it, tmp int files, etc. while im at it may i ask, does moving the user profile in 7 move all those users folders or is it still one at a time(docs, pics, music, etc)? one last thing if you have time, can you briefly take a look at my other post in "operating systems' and let me know if i'm on the right track?

thank you for you're help.

Well by the nature of SSDs you ideally want the stuff you use a lot (OS, certain appications that you use everyday) on the SSD and everything else on traditional storage. Generally, flash drives (and I've assumed you mean the little usb drives you can plug in when you say flash drive) aren't big enough to be useful storage to supplement an SSD.

I don't have a complete list of directories you can redirect, I know you can move your profile location (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html) and that should cover all the My xxxx folders as well as temporary internet files.

Hey! you're getting good at reading my mind! :o
you assume correctly. and the folders that arent "my" can be moved as well, and im gathering that there isnt going to be any 'moved' items that the ssd speed would benifit from being on a usb flash. i think i have about enough info now to go with this ssd install but it will be a few days so ill see if i get any more responces. thanks:)

If you don't have the files on the ssd, then you won't have the speed of the ssd, hence you won't benifit to put it elsewhere. the whole idea to put a ssd in your computer is speed. we put the most accessed file in the ssd, so when we want them we can get them faster than traditional hard disk. The flash drives I used are way slower than the tradional hard drive, I don't know if there are other flash drive actually faster than hard drives, I haven't seem any still.

If you have enought ram, maybe you can create a ram drive then every time you turn on your computer, you copy the most used files there. then you would have a super faster access.

Best wishes

thanks for stearing me to ram drive.
ive seen it breifly in a couple other places but didnt investigate and at 1st glance it seems a real +.
ill be finding this out when i read up on it, but,,does ramdrive require an added step at each boot up? or did you mean that once implemented the most used files will auto go there?
thanks for sharing you're experiences.

I think you have to write a batch file or scripts to automatically copy the files to the ram drive if you don't use any utility program for ram drive. I remember in the DOS days the hard drive was so slow that we write a batch file to copy the os to the ram drive and redirect to search path to the ram drive to increase speed.
Good luck

"Once the RAMDisk Driver is started, it will stay running, even through reboots. It will only stop when signaled to do so by hitting the "Stop" button."

I'll do a moch-up(s) w/o ssd to learn it before setting it in place. At least can auto start at boot up and perhaps even auto start the saved clean image. If not, then should be able to clean the image at leisure after pc start up. :)
