to boot a computer without a HD. Me and my friend got a hold of something, but the HD was destroyed. Is it possible to run it off of a live CD or like DSL on a flash. I've tried to boot my my comp w/ dsl off a flash, but i couldnt get it to work. I've done my research but cant figure it out. If that is possible, how can i get it to work.

Thanks, Jason

How else do you think you install stuff on a computer when you have a blank hard drive ;P A CD would work fine(Live-CD, BartPE...) Flashdrive if the computer supports it.

so the HD is not needed for booting, right? Ill be able to access the net via the live cd (i have ubuntu) could I then use a usb as a HD till I get a real one, just for like documents and stuff?

thanks, jason

A HDD isn't needed for booting; however the PC may not support booting from USB devices. But it should support booting from a CD, then you could put a USB drive in to get the documents.
