i know that by holding the on button, it turn your computer off, my quesion is is this safe? what if my comuter freezes? i'm using microsoft windows is that helps.
thanks

Hmmm

If you mean holding it until it shuts off, then it is not good. If you mean pressing it and that triggering the shutdown sequence, then yes.

Yup

By holding it down, you cot off the power supply into the computer. Hence, the OS has not had the time to save settings and so on and corruption could result as mentioned above due to the fact that the components have not been shut down properly.

fyi: you can set your comp to shutdown when you press the power button if that is what u r after.

how do you set it to do that? and is it safe?

what os r u using?

in win xp, click start>control panel>performance and maintenance>power options>advanced tab>there will be an option that says "when i press the power button on my computer:" and there will be a dropdown list and you can choose:

Do Nothing
Ask Me What To Do
Standby
Hibernate
Shutdown

yes it is safe. just remember that you only have to press it once and you dont have to hold it. it will shutdown normally.

i do it lodes of times and nothing BAD  has happend

I have this problem sometimes:

I go to shut down and it goes through all that "saving your settings" and "windows is shutting down" crap and then the screen goes black, meaning my PC should be off, but it isn't. My LED lights, fans, and temp display are still on, so I just press the switch on my PSU, could that be bad?
